Protests Rise Against TJHS Lottery Based Admissions

Protests Rise Against TJHS Lottery Based Admissions

Large group of parents, students, alumni, staff, and community members of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology are protesting against an effort underway in the Virginia Governor’s office and in the Fairfax County Public Schools school board and administration to replace Thomas Jefferson High School’s race-blind admissions with a “lottery” system, a change that will impact the curriculum at TJ and its academics. These members have initiated a coalition to fight against this change and have been protesting relentlessly to keep their voices heard on higher notes. Parents, Students and Community members have been protesting at the school against its’ race-blind admission policies. These community-aware volunteers are demanding that Thomas Jefferson keep its’ rich heritage of appreciating and embracing merit based admissions rather lottery based.
