University of SiliconAndhra To Begin MA Course in Telugu

University of Silicon Andhra (UofSA) has been offering high quality academic programs in Indian Fine Arts and Languages since January 2017. At present there are 5 departments at UofSA: Kuchipudi Dance, Bharatanatyam, Carnatic Music, Sanskrit and Telugu. The UofSA administration is in the process of developing a number of new academic initiatives. One of them is Master of Arts in Telugu.

*** M.A. in Telugu – Program Description:
This program is aimed at providing the student with a comprehensive understanding of Telugu language and literature. The varied courses are aimed at offering expertise to the student in different periods and genres of Telugu literature. It contains some of the finest texts in each genre thereby providing a deep understanding of each genre. It also provides the necessary critical tools with which the student gauges the prominence and excellence in each of these texts. The program also provides insights into the cultural and historical evolution of the period between 11th to 20th century vis a vis the literary texts of those ages.

*** Duration: Two years (spread over 4 semesters or more)
*** Required Units: 30 credit units
*** Required Courses: Total of 10 courses (7 core and 3 electives)

*** Core Courses for Graduate program: 7 Core
Classical Poetry 3 credits
History of Telugu Literature 3 credits
Introduction to Sanskrit Literature 3 credits
Grammar and Prosody 3 credits
Modern Poetry and Fiction I 3 credits
Aesthetics and Modern Literary Criticism 3 credits
Research Methodology – Short Thesis 3 credits

*** Electives Courses of Graduate program: 6 Electives (out of which 3 are studied)
Introduction to Linguistics 3 credits
Folk Lore 3 credits
History and Culture of the Telugus 3 credits
Introduction to Pada Literature (Lyrical) 3 credits
Traditional Performing Arts: Yakshaganam to Modern Drama 3 credits
Evolution of Telugu Prose 3 credits
